Glossary
ShootHive uses a consistent vocabulary across every part of the product. This is a quick reference to the terms you'll meet, grouped by area.
Core
- Workspace
- Your studio's private space in ShootHive; all data is scoped to it and nothing leaks between studios.
- Member
- Someone with a login to your studio's workspace, carrying a role.
- Person
- A directory entry for crew or talent — not necessarily a member.
- Role
- A named bundle of permissions that controls what a member can see and do.
- Owner
- The account that owns the workspace, with full access to settings and finance.
- Archived
- Soft-deleted: hidden from active lists but kept and recoverable. ShootHive never hard-deletes.
Production
- Project
- A long-running container that groups related shoots, a budget, and a client.
- Shoot
- A single production session or day — the core object most workflows attach to.
- Producer
- The person responsible for running a shoot or project.
- Assignment
- A booking of a person on a shoot or project, in a role, with a rate.
- Status
- The operational state of a shoot or project, from a list your studio defines.
- Calendar event
- An entry on the production calendar — a shoot, a hold, or a synced external event.
- Personal block
- A period someone marks themselves unavailable — vacation, sick, or other.
People & documents
- Client
- The customer or brand the work is for.
- Talent
- A person hired for on-camera or on-mic work; the subject of a model release.
- Location
- A studio, set, or address where a shoot takes place.
- Document
- A model or property release, NDA, or contract created from a template.
- Template
- A reusable spec for a document, with fillable fields and signer roles.
- Release
- Signed permission to use a person's image (model release) or a location (property release).
- File
- An attachment — moodboard, reference, deliverable — linked to a shoot, project, or location.
Finance
- Budget
- A plan of costs and revenue at project or shoot scope.
- Line item
- A single cost or income row inside a budget.
- Cost category
- A label that classifies budget lines — Crew, Equipment, Catering, and so on.
- Rate profile
- A reusable rate template applied to crew and budget lines.
- Payment
- A recorded transaction against a budget line item.
- P&L
- Profit and loss — revenue minus cost, for a project or the whole studio.
- Margin
- What's left after costs — the profit on a project or shoot.
Common questions
What's the difference between a person and a member?
A person is a directory entry for crew or talent; a member has a login and works inside the workspace. Most people are not members.
What does archived mean?
Soft-deleted: hidden from active lists but kept and recoverable. ShootHive never hard-deletes.
What is a release?
Signed permission to use a person's image (a model release) or a location (a property release).
